New Demand for Eco Cars

There has been a sharp increase in the UK for eco-friendly cars as fuel prices rise. Consumers want to upgrade from their expensive to drive older cars to new cars that are less expensive to drive everyday. This new demand coincides with the fact that manufacturers are now making vehicles with low emissions without sacrificing performance. UK consumers will gladly drive an eco car now that diesel models are so fuel effective. There was a fear of driving an electric car and having no where to charge the batteries.

A new eco car is now attractive and more reliable than ever before making them a common sense option for many motorists. Having a large family or just needed more room in a vehicle used to be a valid excuse for not buying an eco-friendly vehicle but not anymore. New green MPV’s are in the UK market, combining space for a large family with an environmentally conscious vehicle.

The increases in UK taxes for petrol guzzling vehicles required consumers to seek more cost-effective alternatives and car manufacturers stepped in to fill the need making new cars with very low emissions that were still fun to drive. The automotive industry is making a great deal of headway in squeezing more power out of smaller engines, with lower emissions per unit of horsepower.

The taxes were enacted by the government to encourage consumers not to harm the environment, but for most consumers, an eco car is an economic necessity. For daily commuters in central London, the annual cost of the congestion charge can amount to over £2,000 per year. To be eligible for the Greener Vehicle Discount, consumers need to drive cars that emit less than 100gCO2/km. This is a 100% discount although there is a £10 annual registration fee. Upgrading to a new eco car has never made so much sense economically.
